" ... As a colorful fantasy film, “GeGeGe No Kitaro” provides for a unique cinema experience, that will appeal to the young and the old alike. The film lacked a bit in the pure thrills department, but that was balanced out by the consistently high level of fun placed throughout the film. I can’t say I have ever dreamed about flying around on a roll of toilet paper before, but “GeGeGe No Kitaro” sure made me want to... "

Vengeance

As the group ventures deeper into the forest, the eerie realm unleashes its spirits unto the intruders, killing them one by one. Still intent on bringing Nasor to justice, the officer relentlessly pursues the criminal in a race against time and the unseen forces of the ancient forest.

" ...we also meet a giant snake, that's when the CGI fails to convince, the modelling and animation is far from convincing and kicks off the effects-heavy part of the film which the budget can’t really endure.
If the producers had stuck with the subtler effects of the mid-section of the film and kept up with the three-handed game of police/convicts/forest people, it could have played as a tight thriller.
Unfortunately, the FX get over-ambitious and so does the plot – there's lots of action, little reason, and it ends with a rushed, botched finale.
So please don't think you're getting a giant snake movie, (which the posters might lead you to believe) you’ll be disappointed. The snake actually lets it down as the dodgiest effect in the film. The benchmark for snake FX has been set by the Anaconda sequels – we’re talking straight-to-video – if you can’t match the quality of those, stay out of the jungle!
The acting is convincing, not something you can say about many horror films from Thailand. There's a sexy cast, plenty of action, plot twists, a little gore, and some glimpses of creatures you haven’t seen before… But I just wanted it to make more sense.
My enjoyment of the film was slightly hampered by this Thai DVD release, which is annoyingly censored – adults smoking, knives held to the throat and guns pointing at people’s heads were all blurred out (see below). I also thought I spotted some jumpy edits dring some of the fights – I suspect there’s a stronger cut somewhere out there.
Worse still, the framing of the film felt like the 16:9 image had been cropped down from 2.35, leaving characters leaning out of the sides of the frame or even speaking off screen. "

SYNOPSIS:
Generations come and go,
but the "love" remains forever.

CHUNG SIU HO (Lee Sze Kei, Louise) and her husband KAM TAI CHO (Ha Yu) have been working hard for many years to establish a famous reputation for their Moonlight Cake Shop. However, HO discovers that CHO commits adultery with her best friend YAN HUNG (Yim, Michelle) and she breaks up with him miserably. HO brings along her children KAM WING HO (Lam, Raymond), KAM WING HING (Chen Fala) and her adopted daughter SUEN HO YUET (Yeung Yi) to set up another cake shop for a living.

HUNG moves in to live with CHO and she starts playing tricks in the family. She tries pleasing her mother-in-law SHEH KWAN LAI (Lee Heung Kam) in every ways while disuniting her stepson and CHO. Outside the family, HUNG starts expanding their business rapidly and HO's younger sister CHUNG SIU SA (Kwan Kuk Ying, Susanna) is displeased. SA decides to fight for the ownership of their cake shop's brand name in court with HUNG and their relationship with HUNG further deteriorates.

Apart from the cake shop business, HO also spends a lot of efforts on her children. Her oldest son KAM WING KA (Chan Ho, Moses) is not interested in managing the cake shop at all and he indulges himself on stock trading. He also develops an entangling relationship with his cousin LO KA MEI (Tsui Tsz Shan, Kate) and YUET at the same time. On the other hand, HO's younger son WING HO takes up the role of a father in the family and he works hard all the time to earn a living. WING HO loves his childhood friend CHAU (Chung Ka Yan) whole-heartedly but CHAU is in love with the doctor LING CHI SHUN (Wong Chung Chak).

HO works hard unconditionally to strive for the well being of her family members. HUNG, on the other hand, is a very mean person who values her own benefits only. CHO is caught between the two women all the time and he feels helpless. One day, a disaster happens at the cake shop. Here comes a time when human nature, family bonds and love are brought to a trail.

Whilst growing up in rural Thailand, a young orphan girl is taught the ways of magic by her grandmother. But when Grandmother falls sick, Dau is lured to Bangkok to find work so that she can buy medicine. She finds herself working in a Go-Go bar and her journey from naiveté to maturity is swift.

She uses the magical skills her grandmother taught to her advantage but in doing so makes enemies within the bar. As her magic gets darker and the consequences increasingly horrific, she gradually loses control and something evil takes over.

" The girls are very good actresses, something I was surprised at was how natural they all seemed. In particular the relationship between Dau, played by Suangporn Jaturaphut, and Pookie played by Opal. They both are really strong together on screen and you really do believe that these two girls care for each other.
The story is written well and the ending very satisfying, although perhaps it is cut a little too harshly before the final sequence. You feel that there could have been a few scenes restored that were originally removed (in fact thirty minutes have been cut from the movie).
I was surprised at some of the special effects in the movie, the look of the spirit herself is supremely creepy, and in keeping with other creatures of Asian horror that may be more familiar. Also the scenes where the spirit enters the body and begins to eat from the inside are very well done and look to have been created with quite a budget behind them. Then there's a car crash scene which by no means seems small either in budget or in physical size on location.
There are some truly scary and creepy moments that I would definitely class as alongside more famous Asian horrors, I did jump once or twice, and carried an image or two to my bed that night, a superb affect for a movie to have. Some of the scare moments are excellently shot to provide just enough scare factor. Indeed the quality of the camera work throughout the movie is very good.
Let's not forget the comedy in the movie as well, there are a couple of pretty funny lines. For instance the Desk Clerk asks the Security Guard to visit a room as someone has complained about a Westerner "moaning loudly" in the room. "A westerner moaning loudly in a hotel room? That's unusual!". The subtitles are in perfect English and carry through the humour very well.
Something I wasn't so sure about was the comic element during some of the horror scenes. I'm not entirely convinced it was intended in some parts, although without a doubt the scene with Paul was funny and uncomfortable at the same time, yet others I was unsure whether to laugh. This is particularly true of a scene where a Westerner dies on a bed and blood shoots out from his ears, a few of the audience laughed and I was unsure if this was the desired reaction. It really did feel like a Hammer House moment.
Although the story did seem to leap through a few key moments in Dau's power misuse, and also just prior to the ending, I enjoyed the movie, even with the comic horror moments which I felt let it down slightly. There were some very scary and uneasy moments throughout, and the girls were very well acted and were portrayed with an unusual sensitivity for a Westerner. Combined with some amazing locations early on, this makes for an enjoyable movie, just don't watch it too late."

SYNOPSIS:
In one of the darkest and diverse cultural part in the city, there is a minority group who lives in the place where it is full of despair and frustration. Their desperate living comprises illegal gambling, prostitution as well as drug-dealing. This chaotic region is unique within the city.

On one occasion, a cop, Mickey, and a theft, Tai-hoi, riding in a vehicle, unexpectedly crashes into the iron gate of the restricted region. Both men are severely injured and lose their conscious. After they woke up, they found themselves chained up by Crow and his followers. Crow, who is the ruler of the restricted region, hates police and he decided to execute Mickey and Tai-hoi because he believes that one of them is a cop. Meanwhile, a charming woman called Ling, suddenly steps forward from the crowd and revealed that she had worked with Mickey doing the burglary business in the olden days. And so, Tai-hoi remains in custody and Mickey left with Ling. Ling accuses Tai Hoi mainly because he is her husband who did not responsibly take care of her and her daughter, Yan, in the past, remaining them to be rudely controlled by Crow for years. Furthermore, she hopes Mickey can help her to escape from the restricted region.

At the same time, a fatal virus is spreading all over the restricted region. And the government is decided to send cops to kill all human and animal inside the restricted region. Crow orders his followers to counter the invasion of the anti-virus cops.

More shockingly, their cruel deaths are drawn in details and made into a fairytale book by the children. Scared Eun-soo tries to find the way out, but the house is secluded in the forest with no way out. And then, Eun-soo discovers a book which tells a brutal end of none other than himself!

" ...The story might at first seem very ordinary though bleak, but grew from strength to strength as it went on, nevermind weak attempts at trying to elicit some cheap scares. I thought its basis of a story was strong, even though it did have a very screwed up version of the fairy tale most of us probably already know about. The set designs and art direction were all beautiful to look at, and most times you'll shift your focus to admiring the sets when events start to get repetitive, with Eun-Soo's attempts to get out of the house and the enchanted forest in more than 4 attempts, of course thwarted each time. Supporting characters like the adults who come and go, at first might make you scratch your head, but let that be the least of your worries, because once Santa Claus came visiting, you'll have to suspend your disbelief, otherwise this movie wouldn't work.

Hansel and Gretel's a pretty decent thriller, a mix of groundhog-day-ness with the usual trappings of cheap horror movies, boosted though by its rich production values. Themes of wanting to belong and non-reciprocated friendship, together with major trust issues, lift its plain storyline, and all round fine acting by the kids who will at first scare you, and then lead you to want to give them all a hug. "

"...Movies like “Shadowless Sword” lives and dies by its promise of action, and in this area the film more than makes up for the pedestrian screenwriting. Still, even this aspect of the film is mired somewhat by Kim’s insistence on shooting the action scenes in such a frenetic style that it’s really impossible to tell what anyone is doing onscreen. Compare the action scenes here to Ang Lee’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, where every movement is precise and clearly visible, and “Shadowless Sword” sometimes comes across like an exercise in people posing with swords in-between moments of them leaping into the air and twirling around as hidden wires yank them to and fro. But if style is what you’re looking for, “Sword” has it in abundance.

“Shadowless Sword” is an unsubstantial genre entry with few outstanding moments, but is nevertheless pleasingly (if vacuously) entertaining from beginning to end. The nearly two hour running time will seem like 90 minutes, and there is just so much action that it’s hard to ever get bored, whether by the perfunctory romance, or Kim’s oblivious attempt at some sort of plot twist involving Soha and Jeong-Hyeon’s shared history. Plus, there are some unintentional (or were they intentional after all?) comedy to be had, especially in the early parts when it looks as if all the men’s wardrobe came straight from Captain Jack Sparrow’s private collection. "

The countryside is overrun by zombies, with only a few pockets of survivors just scraping by here and there. One such person is Aya, the next to the last member of a clan gifted in the ways of the sword, who thusly handles the undead with relative ease, though she has her sights on her younger sister, Saki, for the murder of their father.
By Aya's side is Katsuji who has had similar hardships; his kid sister has been kidnapped by the evil D3 corporation and the zombie it's created, and he too is out for revenge.
Later they meet another ass-kicking lady shows up, Reiko, who wages war with a sawed off shot-gun. After the zombies are done away with, they immediately set their sights on each other. But Aya's cowardly and bumbling, yet lovable assistant Katsuji manages to convince each other that they're all fighting for the same thing, and a truce is formed.

" Even for a video game flick, none of it is hardly groundbreaking or incredible, but the Beauty Chanbara does have its merit, and a certain degree of charm. The players do their jobs well enough; not to be sexist, but the female leads are designed to appeal to a mostly male audience, which is more than accomplished ...
...The zombie make up is more than serviceable, and the CGI effects aren't offensive, on a low-budget scale that is. The most annoying had to be Aya's tattoo on her arm, which is clearly a piece of plastic, just looking to get peeled off. Otherwise, once again: zombies, swordplay, cute Japanese girls. The choice is yours."

Ji-ho is a promising pianist, studying and playing abroad for years. But one night she had a stage fright and never recovers. In despair, Ji-ho comes home and meets her old classmate Sung-ryong.

Once a very bright boy, Sung-ryong had an accident and now he is in late 20s with the mind of a six year old. He is very forgetful, but he has never forgotten his first love Ji-ho. Other half of Sung-ryong’s dumb mind is occupied with his only family – younger sister Jee-in. To take care of her, Sung-ryong sells toasts in front of Jee-in’s school. But Jee-in is embarrassed of her idiotic brother and ignores him.

And Sang-soo is Sung-ryong’s old friend who understands Sung-ryong’s innocent mind. But he inevitably falls to the world of gangsters. Ji-ho is still in her slump, Jee-in falls sick and Sang-soo gets involved in a bloody dispute. But all of their agonies are miraculously saved by Sung-ryong in a way nobody has forseen.

" What did I find in this movie? A touching story plus fantastic act from Cha Tae-hyun (plays Sung-ryong). The movie succeeds in telling in the minor details and crossed wires that bond people's relationship. At the same time you will find some "cute" moment and comedy tropes here or there to move the movie along. In no doubt, I would say this is one of the most beautiful drama movies so far in this year. Miracle of Giving Fool a.k.a BA:BO was released in South Korea on February 28, 2008, and was ranked second at the box office on its opening weekend, grossing $2,302,058. By April 6 the film had grossed a total of $6,377,089, and as of March 23 the total number of tickets sold was 951,573. "

" This one is a very atmospheric film, and the cinematographer knew just how to light the scenes, film the angles and use all the tricks of the trade to give it an uneasy and very off kilter feel very much complementary to the story. The acting is good…. particularly by Nuttamonkan Srinikornchot, who plays her role seriously, but without the melodramatic excesses that often come with such characters in Asian cinema. The overall direction and pacing are good as well, director Tharatap Thewsomboon tells a simple story without overly embellishing the plot with any superfluous elements that would distract you from the story. Also…. despite my initial thought, this one isn’t really a romance story either. Ming and Buud are more like mutual victims of a tragedy that need each other more as companions in misery than any other more romantic ideas.
Overall… this was a good one. There wasn’t the level of gore that sometimes accompanies Thai Ghost movies, but the eerie uneasy atmosphere of “The Spiritual World” suits it perfectly. "

"... It has to be said, that as a Martial Art film, “Punch Lady” doesn’t truly measure up. The fight between this frail delicate woman and her brutal thug of a husband is so obviously mismatched that it does require a bit of “suspension of disbelief” to work. Does this mean it’s a bad film? Not in the least. The characters are likable, compelling, and sympathetic and you’ll find yourself wanting them to win, no matter the ridiculous odds against it. The fight scenes only really happen at the beginning of the film and the very end, but much of the film doesn’t depend upon constant flashy martial art sequences. This is a character driven piece, and it’s there that it does it’s best.
Naturally, this one is primarily a story about the issues of domestic violence and the chauvinistic attitudes that women in Korea today have to deal with in their society as a daily reality, but it also manages to entertain on a purely simple level as well. After the first sequence slapped me in the face with it’s cruelty, I didn’t think I’d end up liking this one much, but by the end I found myself very attached to the characters and hoping that Ha Eun could pull off a miracle. "

" ...Breaking News does provide one major, major bonus: it entertains, and not in a dumbed-down, unintelligent way. The media satire, while not fully explored, does give the film a few sly laughs, and Johnnie To paces the cat-and-mouse "Die Hard in a Hong Kong apartment building" storyline with enjoyable tension and appropriate bursts of action. Aside from the astounding one-take opening sequence, Breaking News provides a climactic minibus chase also shot in one take, and effective split-screen moments which bring the characters and their situations closer together. Even if marketing botched some aspects of Breaking News, Johnnie To handles the actual storytelling with admirable cinematic panache. It's not a perfect film by any means, but for Hong Kong commercial cinema, Breaking News is still better than we probably deserve. ... "

" As a director, Young fuses hard edged violence and graphic imagery with an exceptionally dark sense of humour and the sense of high melodrama typical to Korean films but made palatable here by Young’s insistence on playing those elements as understated as possible and keeping them firmly within the realities of his characters. Stop and think about Jae Shin and Kyung Joo’s personal histories, not to mention their connection to the primary killer of the film, and the way the trio interacts as a whole and those elements pile up so high that it verges on ridiculous but played as simply and straight ahead as they are in the film those very same elements actually play quite convincingly as tragedy. Instead of bogging the film down into sappy attempts at drawing tears or explaining away the flaws of the characters - a flaw that has killed many a Korean film - the extensive, though not immediately apparent, connections create a puzzle box of a picture, a film that continually reveals new layers of tragedy, violence and payback as it unfolds. Add to that fact that Young shoots some truly beautiful film while also having a flawless sense of the grotesque and an impressive ability to manipulate tension and it’s clear that he is a very significant talent to watch.

As strong as Young is, however, his skills would have been entirely wasted if the casting was even an inch wrong on this one and, happily, he is blessed with a trio of outstanding actors who each play their part to perfection. Prolific actor Lee Sun Gyun has never had a true international break out role but he gives his part as Jae Shin just the right amount of gravity and makes his complicated relationship with his childhood best friend Kyung Joo perfectly believable, one scene where he realizes that his friend is more involved in these crimes than he should be played to absolute perfection. Young star Ryu Deok Hwan plays the unhinged psychosis of the film’s primary villain with surprising subtlety, a performance filled with little touches and grace notes combined a remarkable willingness to go to some very nasty places, a performance that suggests to me that he may well prove to be a younger answer to Shin Ha Kyun. The real star of the show, though, is Soo‘s Oh Man Seok who, by god, should be a major, major star based on the strength of his work here. Enormously charismatic while also quietly understated - a hard trick, that - he is a treat to watch, one of those rare actors who can sell a character with a glance or a shift in posture. It is the conflicting urges within his part as Kyung Joo that drive the picture and he is compelling throughout.

In the wrong hands Our Town could very easily have devolved into something unbearable to watch, and not for the right reasons. There are so many places where this film could have gone wrong, so many places where it could easily have tipped over the edge into cheap sentimentality or broad caricature but somehow Young and his talented cast found the path through it. Very entertaining and technically impressive Our Town is one of Korea’s most striking films of the past couple years. "

She then teams up with the chainsaw-wielding mother (Asami) of her brother’s slain friend and together they unleash an unholy, non-stop, over-the-top kill fest against the equally creative machinery (drill bra, flying guillotine) of their relentless ninja enemies.

" ...Aside form the titular machine-gun armed female, Machine Girl features chainsaw battles, tempura tortures, sweet basketball moves, uber-creepy parents, intestine-vomiting culinary instances, American football fighting, Adidas-clad super ninjas, face nailing, booby-drills, and much much more. Seriously, much of the stuff on display has to be seen to be believed...."
" ...In terms of acting, Machine Girl is B-Movie gold. Evey line is delivered in perfect tongue-in-cheek style, a mix of complete earnestness and absolute ludicrousness. Every female in the picture is under thirty, and some form of martial artist, gravure idol, or both. And, surprisingly enough, all do a pretty respectable job. Minase Yashiro, while a bit unbelievable in sequences of hand to hand combat, completely sells her character’s machine gunning badass. Asami, who plays Miki, the mechanic mother dreamlogic.net's Machine Girl movie reviewturned chainsaw-wielding avenger, proves she has the swordplay skills and martial arts moves to put many an action hopeful to shame. Lastly, Honoka, who plays the female baddie in the picture, exhibits a surprising and unrelenting mean streak throughout the picture. In the film’s final sequences her prized assets come into play, wielding the aforementioned drill weapon, delivering maximum laughs and maximum splatter.

And again it would seem I’ve let my review run away from me. Machine Girl is easily one of the funniest and most entertaining genre films I’ve seen in quite a while... "

The other band members followed suit -- having witnessed a terrifying woman with long hair, who scrutinized them with murderous revenge in her eye.

Presently, the band met with a monk who told them of a murder three months ago: Sangdaw, a prostitute in the Tulip Hotel, was killed in room 409. Her body was chopped up and her decapitated head hidden behind the air-con unit. How is the band to deal with this? Have they been mortally cursed by the tragic ghost?

" ...Sure, The Sisters is something we've all seen before. There is nothing new in a group of teens being pursued by a killer apparition, and when you add in the J/C/K horror angle, the derivation becomes even more direct. Still, director Thiwa Meyathaisong deserves credit for what he's accomplished, even if it's a lot like what Roger Corman and AIP pictures did throughout the 50s and 60s. This is an eerie, disturbing movie macabre that uses its obvious borrowing to great effect - and there's even some originality here, just for good measure. If you want to see The Grudge on steroids, or The Ring with real spook spunk, check out this Thai treat. It just goes to prove that not every homage is horrid. Sometimes, those doing the borrowing know the exact amount of mimicry needed to succeed. That is definitely the case with this crafty little creepfest. "

So Close

At the start of the movie they assassinate the chairman of a top Chinese company.

In the aftermath of their successful mission, an intelligent Police Detective named Kong Yat Hung (Karen Mok) is assigned to their case and is able to track them down. The cat-and-mouse chase becomes more complicated when Lin and Ai Quan become the targets of the very people who originally hired them and Yat Hung is framed for Lin's death. Left with no choice, Yat Hung teams up with Ai Quan to find Lin's true killer.

" ...Yuen puts his martial arts choreography experience to bear on the action sequences of "So Close", and it shows. Blending CGI and wire-fu, "So Close" is peppered with action sequences that will please fans of Hong Kong action, with plenty of aerial moves, guns being flung through the air, and double-fisted shootouts. Some of the standout sequences include the high-octane opening action sequence in which Lynn takes out an office building full of disposable henchmen, a womano-a-womano catfight between Lynn and Hong, a car chase that is monitored via satellite, and the expected final showdown against the chief bad guy and his army of gun-toting thugs and martial arts experts.

Aside from handling the physical demands of their roles, the actresses adequately service the thesping-optional requirements of the film. Shu Qi, whose career has been advanced more by her looks rather than acting ability, is competent as the devil-may-care Lynn. Zhao is easily the most interesting person on the screen, playing a naïve young woman who is eager to go out on her own and prove herself. Finally, Mok is a lot of fun to watch as a tough cop with the brains and the brawn necessary to crack the case.

For a guilty-pleasure time-waster, it is difficult to go wrong with "So Close". Though the script seems to sleepwalk through its storytelling obligations, this is more than made up for by the inventive action choreography of director Yuen. Infused with distinctive Hong Kong-style action sequences that you would be hard-pressed to find anywhere else, "So Close" comes very close to making "Charlie's Angels" look like a sedate Jane Austen-style period costume drama. "

Ultraman: The Next

Ultraman's origin is updated in this theatrical feature. Fighter pilot Maki (Bessho) is thought killed in a mysterious midair collision but is later found alive and well. At the same time a mysterious monster that can absorb animals into itself is on the loose. Can Maki discover the power in himself that will stop the monster?

REVIEW:
"The destruction of the miniature cityscapes is quite well done, but the CGI work when Ultraman and his monstrous opponent take flight leaves a little to be desired: the shots look too much like a videogame. Still, even these scenes have some redeeming aspects, including an oddly poetic moment when, mid-battle, our hero recalls that he wanted to become a pilot after seeing a jet streaking across the sky like a silver meteor — and now, in the form of Ultraman, he has become an almost literal embodiment of that childhood image.

The new Ultraman costume is a big improvement over previous versions. The old one-piece suit (which always buckled and bent, giving away its rubber origins) has been replaced with a multi-piece costume that looks more metallic and robotic, built up almost like body armor, with more flexible, darker sections about the movable joints.

The story is handled reasonably well, although there are some weaknesses here. The pacing is uneven, and exposition about Ultraman’s strengths and weaknesses is in short supply. The child’s illness is never resolved. The marital tension between his parents is muddled: apparently, mom is upset that her husband, having quit the air force to spend time with his son, is instead spending his time in the hunt for the monster - but we never get a feel for how much time he is spending away from home. Even when they finally reconcile before the final battle, the director blows the scene, having them part without so much as a kiss (no doubt a vestige of the old kiddie show mentality, which avoided romance at all costs).

The live-action production values are good but not outstanding - probably the result of a modest budget. The photography works at about the level of an above-average TV movie. The sets and location work are nice but not overly impressive. And considering what a major operation the search for the monster must be, it seems a bit understaffed: most of the scenes consist of the pilot and a lady scientist talking to each other, with a handful of guys in fatigues showing up once in a while.

Fortunately, the film delivers as a good-natured, reasonably serious monster-movie — not too grim and scary for kids, but not so light-hearted and silly as the TV series could be. The family drama is not developed very deeply, but it does help imbue the story with some real pathos, turning this into a decent piece of family film entertainment. It’s no match for GAMERA, GUARDIAN OF THE UNIVERSE or GODZILLA: FINAL WARS, but Ultraman fans should love it, and even open-minded fantasy-filmgoers will find themselves having a good time."

REVIEW:
"..I really wanted to like this movie, being a fan of Johnny To and the original ROOT. After watching ROOT 2, I have mixed feelings about it. The performances are good but the movie drags and feels much longer than it actually is. There isn't a lot of action and I can't help but wonder how such a top notch cop like Lau Chin Wan's character can keep getting one-upped by Cheng. In the first movie, it was like a chess game. Andy Lau would make a move and Lau Chin Wan would counter. In ROOT 2, he just plays catch up.

Another minus is some scenes that are in English. It seems forced and unnecessary. The movie does have some pluses. The cinematography is great and the DVD is anamorphic. As with other Johnny To movies, there are some of those little moments that shine through. Ekin's character teaches a negotiator that gambling is bad by flipping a coin and letting him guess the outcome. It is drawn out but by the end of the movie you'll know why. There are a few other glimpses of what makes the characters what they are but not too many..."

Although Kyung-jin is one tough girl, Myung-woo is always worried about her because of her recklessness. One day, when Myung-woo tries to help Kyung-jin during her risky pursuit of a criminal, an accident happens which causes Myung-woo not to be with Kyung-jin anymore. After the accident, Kyung-jin feels empty and lonely so she throws herself into perilous situations. However, whenever she falls in danger she feels that a strange but familiar sense in the wind is helping her out.

REVIEW:
"..."Windstruck" is also not much of a stretch for its actors. Jeon is given yet another chance to act mad, sad, and glad again, and for a while, her over-the-top antics are certainly charming. However, it soon proves to be too much of a good thing. Whereas Jeon's tearful performance in "My Sassy Girl" (especially when apologizing to Kyun-woo on a mountaintop) could reduce grown men to crybabies, the same magic fails to happen in "Windstruck". While this is partly due to the emotionally flat material, the other problem is that the sight of Jeon weeping goes into overkill, with her character breaking out in tears every few minutes until it becomes almost meaningless. Meanwhile, Jang traverses familiar territory in yet another 'lovable loser' role, similar to the work he did in films such as "Volcano High (Whasango)" and "Please Teach Me English (Yeongeo wanjeonjeongbok)"-certainly nothing new for him, but at least there is an earnest quality in his performance. A number of other familiar faces round out the cast, including Jang's "Volcano High" co-star Kim Su-ro as a street thug, as well as a humorous appearance by Lee Gi-wu of "The Classic".

Who has seen the "Windstruck"? A number of unhappy people apparently. "Windstruck" received quite a bit of critical drubbing since its 2004 summer theatrical release, both from the media and fans. While "Windstruck" may be welcome relief for Jeon Ji-hyun fans who have been longing for the spunky actress to return to her roots, (especially after her disappointing appearance in the arthouse horror film "The Uninvited")-- indeed, Kwak offers plenty of footage of the charming actress doing what she does best. Unfortunately, where "Windstruck" falls apart is in the storytelling. Instead of a genuinely moving romantic comedy in the vein of "My Sassy Girl", the emotionally detached "Windstruck" trades in schmaltzy clichés and trips over its scatterbrained script. It is rumored that both Jeon and her "My Sassy Girl" co-star Cha plan to work together again on Kwak's next film, with filming to begin at the end of 2004-hopefully, that collaboration will result in a film worthy of carrying on the legacy of "My Sassy Girl"."

With the eyes of the other subway passengers upon him, who all believe that she is his girlfriend, he has little choice but to take responsibility for her.

Thus begins his relationship with the at-times charming, at-times violent damsel who steals his heart. Much of the film is structured around the bizarre antics of Gyeon-woo's newfound girlfriend. After she passes out yet again, Gyeon woo looks at her blissful face and promises to himself that he will save her, and right whatever it is that troubles her. This proves to be much more of a challenge than he expects.

" If there is one really good reason to watch "My Sassy Girl", it would have to be Jun Ji-hyun's turn as the film's unnamed heroine. From her unforgettable first appearance as a wasted commuter, to her rambunctious bullying of Kyun-woo, to the heartbreak she wears on her sleeve, Jun displays an unparalleled level of enthusiasm and dramatic range in portraying a young woman whose domineering exterior is but a smokescreen for her own vulnerability-- it is almost difficult to believe that this same actress who played the quiet and introspective Kim Eun-ju in "Il Mare". As her opposite, the likable Cha Tae-hyun is the perfect comic foil/underdog for Jun's bundle of untamed energy, and his 'constipated' facial expression, when faced with one of her 'outbursts', is priceless.

Like the best Korean films, "My Sassy Girl" is a genre-bending exercise that throws in elements of the teen comedy, the traditional melodramatic romance, and even some genre parody and blends them into a unique cinematic experience that defies categorization. The film's original Korean title, Yeopgi, which means 'novelty-seeking', is in reference to the youth craze that was started by Kim Ho-sik's original Internet postings about his eccentric girlfriend. Though the English title for this film doesn't mean quite the same thing, it certainly does tell you what to expect."

However, before Tawan can take action, the doctor and six resident nurses at the hospital, strap Tawan to an operating table, kill her and then wrap her in a black, plastic garbage bag. They then dump her in the trunk of the doctor’s car, where her corpse will be kept on dry ice until it can be sold.

All the woman have their own obsessions and weaknesses, which are preyed upon in the days that follow, when Tawan's ghost returns to kill each one of her former co-workers.

" The title says it all about "Sick Nurses," a slickly executed and extremely grisly ghost story about a sexy hospital staff paying the price for selling bodies on the black market. Pushing local censorship laws to the limit, T-horror bloodbath will find its way onto the viewing lists of genre buffs and has enough flair to qualify for spots at selected fests. Package co-helmed by Thospol Siriwiwat and Piraphan Laoyont ("Suicide Me," 2003) failed to set local B.O. pulses racing on June release but should find much healthier returns on DVD. "

As Ma is on the road to his dream, the gap between him and his soul-mate Song Ching (Melissa Ng Mei Heng) is growing wider and wider.

REVIEW:
" As for the plot, it was almost identical to the first movie, which made me question as to whether the director is running out of ideas. Vengeful beings come back to haunt, torture and eventually kill those who have caused them pain. Even after having watched the first film, I still found it confusing as it wasn't clear as to whether this film is a prequel or a sequel, as the flashback scenes in the movie - which were supposed to illuminate - confuse the viewer instead. In addition, there were a few loose ends that don't quite make sense. For one, Ta's father who killed his own wife so that he could have a second one, especially after his mum gave him permission to take on a second wife, made his deed seem so unnecessary.

Ah, the most important part of all when it comes to horror films - the effects. I really couldn't stop myself from grinning as I watched the fake, almost pink blood ooze from the abdomens of the victims, plus the bad makeup and un-scary ghosts throughout the movie. How disappointing! Though I did cringe a few times, it wasn't because of the sight of flesh being torn apart, but due to the screams that were just so shrill and painful. Plus, the gory parts were a tad over the top. Too much unnecessary blood and guts.

As for the cinematography, the surroundings around the house and warehouse did have an eerie feeling to it and with the place looking like a swamp, it's an ideal place for a gory horror like this - you know, with black magic and all. A good long focus was given to Panor's expressions when she was tortured, which made the pain so believable, but the effect is subsequently ruined when the camera focused on the gory parts that just looked so fake.

All in all, the first movie was still a better watch compared to this, mainly because "Long Khong 2" is not in any way unique or new: it's exactly like the first one, just with a slightly different (worse?) storyline to it. "

The story takes place in a confusing era, when the system of the medieval era had collapsed and society was moving towards the modern era. At that time, although the population had increased and many virgin forests had been cut down, there still remained many ancient forests which refused humans. Seemingly unstoppable, Ryo's inevitable confrontation with champion Sugawara (Masato) may be his only chance for respect by the society that has so completely rejected him.

REVIEW:
" ...There's plenty of potential in the core set up of Shamo and the opening act is very strong, the visuals and the story complementing each other perfectly while Yue and Ng both turn in very strong performances as the leads. What then is the problem? Simple. As soon as Ryo leaves prison the film essentially stops developing any of the characters in any significant way. Ryo stalls out in his life completely, his motivations simply stop making sense, and the films spends the next hour doing little but repeat itself. First major fight scene within the prison aside, even the fight choreography becomes extremely repetitive. The film simply seems to have nothing to say about Ryo and his life, he certainly has no interest in growing or developing. And while it attempts to redeem itself with some interplay between Ryo and his sister in the final act the climactic reveal was tipped long before and it is simply a case of too little, too late.

Sameway Productions are, without a doubt, one of the most interesting and compelling outfits working in Hong Kong today. Their visual aesthetic is compelling and unique and they show an admirable willingness to lay it all on the line telling extreme stories. The company is pushing Hong Kong cinema in a powerful, energetic direction and they deserve full praise for that. In this case, however, the script simply was not quite ready. "

" As for the visual side of the film, there is nothing but praise from my corner. Throughout the film is a gentle mix of soft, sunny autumn colours, a calm atmosphere and absorbing, melodious movement (from the actors and camera). Without wanting to bore you with the mechanics, the film overall manages to show an environment that could be no more ideal – it is quiet, friendly, clean and beautiful, filled with a superb combination of old and new, nature and man-made, organised and intriguingly scattered. The film is absolutely gorgeous. "

However, fascinated by sources of the portrait Seo-yeon incessantly sends her, Yoon-hee heads for Vietnam to unveil a century-long legend of the portrait. Yoon-hee is stunned by Seo-yeon's dazzling look never seen before but is readily welcomed by her friend. As Yoon-hee unveils the mystery of Muoi, Vietnam, seemingly an exotic place, turns into a setting of a living nightmare, and the secret of Muoi in buried as if never to be revealed.

REVIEW:
" The typical Korean horror film these days tastes a whole lot like Coke, flat Coke that is, after the lid is left off the bottle for several days - flat, stale, and with absolutely no fizz. Fortunately, Muoi : The Legend of A Portrait rises above the more common Korean horror flicks (i.e. awful crap) with a solid script, appealing visuals and surprisingly well done performances. The film doesn’t break out of the formulaic nature of the horror genre, yet it does enough things right to make the film stand out from the crowd...
...The film itself is a joint Korean-Vietnamese joint production with most of the film set in Vietnam. Visually the movie just looked great and the special effects were done as impressively. One of the more surprising aspect of the film would have been how well An Jo performed in her lead role as Yun-hee. Last seen in the goofy time traveling comedy “Project Makeover”, An Jo breaks out of the sweet teenager typecast and delivers bolts of energy in her demanding lead role – she can also scream like a banshee when required. Her counterpart, Ye-ryeon Cha, last seen in “A Bloody Aria” played a more rigid character and thus her performance didn’t have as much flair, but she still managed to give her character the right amount of mystery.

Muoi The Portrait of Legend, isn’t the type of movie to scare the bejesus out of you, but there is an intriguing story set within Muoi, along with an abundance of mystery running throughout the film. Strong performance by An Jo is noteworthy, as she seems to give a breakout performance. Muoi tuns out to be an enjoyable horror film done right. Just remember…”Death begins the Curse”."
